Are you looking for help getting experience to prepare for your career?

If you're looking for some help or guidance trying to figure out how to prepare for vet school or any animal related career, this page may be for you! The executive board members of this club have been kind enough to share their experiences in animal-related fields along with their contact information to help our members have a resource for guidance. Below are some of the experiences they have accumulated through their college careers thus far. Their emails and sites of experience are provided as well if you would like to talk with them about how they came across these opportunities, how it was helpful to them, and how you can get involved! Our executive board members are more than happy to help, so feel free to email them at their listed emails below, or me at Ashley Borden (borden.80@osu.edu) if you have any questions!

Exotic Animal Welfare and Behavior Study Abroad

VETERINARY ASSISSTANT

Exotic Animal Welfare and Behavior Study Abroad

One of eighteen students chosen to travel to South Africa to study and live among exotic animals. Learned and exhibited an understanding of exotic animal species behavior and welfare considerations in the context of: variation in environmental habitats (open range, controlled contact, and zoological settings), management of animal health and well-being, and comparisons with domesticated species. I got to experience exotics up-close and in a magnitude I never would have thought possible in a natural setting, and developed an incredible appreciation for these animals.

A series of computer-based analyses were performed on a given genome sequence of a novel virus in order to understand the biology of the virus and to compare it with other viruses that infect the same host. Worked in groups to assemble and present a poster representing our research results at the Center for Life Sciences Education research forum among various undergraduate and graduate researchers.
