Meeting Information

General body meetings are every other Wednesday at 7pm. Executive board meetings are held on the alternating Wednesdays at 7pm. Attendance at Exec Board Meetings is not required, but if you are interested in running for office at the end of the academic year, you need to attend at least 2 of these meetings before elections. If you cannot attend a general body meeting, you can watch the recording on our YouTube channel and send an email to Laci Kuhlwein.23@osu.edu to get half a point for attending the meeting. Check out the "Calendar" page for information on our meeting schedule and topics a well as upcoming socials, fundraising, and volunteer events. Meetings will be held in person this semester at either the Veterinary Medical Center Auditorium or the Interfaith Prayer & Reflection room at the Ohio Union. The locations for each meeting can be viewed on the Calendar tab.

Be the Match

Join the Be the Match bone marrow donor registry to potentially save the life of one of thousands of people in the U.S. suffering from blood cancer. Very near and dear to our hearts, our former PVMA Vice President, Sophia Kienzle's, mother received a life-saving bone marrow transplant during her bought with cancer. Medical research shows younger donors are best for patients and provide the greatest chance for transplant success, so 75% of doctors will request bone marrow transplants from donors between the ages of 18-35.  We want to encourage our members to join the registry, because your contribution could make all the difference in somebody's fight against cancer! To sign up, go to this link.

Member Status
SHIFT

As you may know, being a Pre-Veterinary student, Veterinary student, or Veterinarian can take a heavy toll on one’s mental health. Mental health is very important to PVMA, and in an effort to better the mental health of Pre-Veterinary students we will be instituting a mental health community called SHIFT. A PVMA group that comes together to talk about any issues they may be facing such as stress, anxiety, depression etc. As well as educate and break the stigma about mental health. This is done in an effort to SHIFT the mental health of Pre-Veterinary students in the right direction.

SHIFT’s mission statement is as follows:
“Our mission is to actively and passionately promote mental health, as well as, the feeling of a community who supports this. We do this so that all those who are enduring a harsh season of life, feel as though they have the strength to overcome.”

Status in the club is important for determining awards at the end of the year and eligibility for running for office. Member status is determined by points. An active status is of higher status than good standing. The breakdown is as follows:

Member in Good Standing:

  1. Attend four general body meetings

  2. Pay dues in full for that semester

Member with Active Status:

  1. Attend four general body meetings

  2. Pay dues in full for that semester

  3. Earn three additional points, all of which must be earned from an activity other than attending a general body meeting. The additional points may also be earned from additional general body meetings after the required four.

Each meeting attended is worth one point. Additional points are obtained by participating in other organized events through the club. Such events include: socials, fundraisers, diversity and inclusion meetings, and volunteering. Attending any of these is worth one point. Most volunteering is worth one point per shift. Additional general body meetings past the active member requirement are worth an additional point.

Check out the Elections page for more information if you are interested in running for a position!

Check out the Points page to see how many points you have. If you have any questions about your status in the club, please contact Laci Kuhlwein.23@osu.edu

Diversity and Inclusion Committee

PVMA's Diversity and Inclusion Committee is a great way to be involved in our club. By joining the committee, you'll have opportunities to explore topics regarding diversity within veterinary medicine and engage in outreach on behalf of the field of veterinary medicine and its careers, as well as PVMA itself. Members will gain leadership experience all while forming connections with fellow committee members. Furthermore, it's a no pressure commitment- just show up to a meeting if you want to, we'll be happy to have you!

If you have any further questions, feel free to email Marissa at Johnston.1015@osu.edu
